After doing standup on a more or less semi-professional level for the last years, I am now starting to feel like a comedian. I am slowly learning to accept that I am funny and that people actually are preparred to pay to see me. Not many – that is true, and not much – that is also true. But nevertheless.
This is a part of the mental conversion from rookie to semi-pro. A conversion that most standup comedians who live with their standup every hour, every day and every week recognise. Because I am not unique – this is a feeling all of us who love doing standup feel.
Because it IS a love affair between us and our job. Even if we never get an audience, even if we never get discovered and even if we ought to be smart and quit before we get broke we keep on doing it. And we all hope that ONE DAY … But until that day comes we are just happy enough when the croud laughs at our jokes.
So come and watch us. Regardless if you are in the UK, USA or Sweden there will always be at least one standup comic that makes you laugh until you cry. If it isn’t me, then maybe one of my fellow colleagues. UKs Kate Smurthwaite and Sol Bernstein, my Canadian friends Manolis Zontanos and Kate Davis, Gothenburgs own Anneli Abrahamsson and Kristian Flodin … just some of the original comedy acts and really great friends I have had the privilege to work with. And there are many many more.
So welcome, my friends, to the loveaffair that never ends. Between us and you, our audience.
